Italy: 173 divers set a new Guinness record! – video

The Italian news agency Raid Italia has reported on a new Guinness World Diving Record that has been set by divers from the Italian peninsula.173 people formed a human chain underwater, which turned out to be the longest ever created! As the whole action was reported and carried out in accordance with all required procedures, the organisers managed to set a new Guinness record!

The divers participating in the attempt were equipped with standard recreational diving equipment, and their primary goal was to beat the result of the French team Groupement des Professionnels de la Plongée, which in 2013 created a chain of 110 human links underwater. The entire action was carried out in the sea, near the coast of the famous island of Elba.

The divers who took part in the event were joined on the surface by a rope marked with special markers and then dived under water, where they had to hold on for at least 60 seconds. This created the longest underwater human chain, which will be entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the new best result. The question is: for how long? Maybe someone in Poland will try to beat this result and in the coming season we will have an opportunity to write about a new record?

“We did it to promote diving. We also wanted to show that diving can unite people all over the world,” – One of the organisers told the Raid Italia agency.

The underwater record will probably not come close to the record length of the “human chain” created on land, but it is not surprising. The “dry” record gathered over 5 million people! The record was set on 11 December 2004, and the chain itself measured 1050 km and stretched between Teknaf and Tentulia in Bangladesh.
