No one needs to be particularly aware of what Lake Hancza means to the diving community. This beautiful and deepest body of water has been attracting crowds of divers from all over the country to Błaskowizna for years. Unfortunately, it seems that soon everything will change and the area will lose its diving character.

All this is due to new regulations of the Regional Director of Environmental Protection in Białystok, which, under the pretext of regulating the situation and protecting the local ecosystem (since 1963, Hańcza has been a nature reserve), will most likely lead to serious restrictions in the possibility of using the basin by divers.

At least the civilian one, because, as reported by the country’s main media, the new regulations will not cover service and military divers. What is more, uniformed personnel will no longer need as many permits as before to use boats equipped with engines in the entire lake without restrictions.

Tourists will be left with only a designated small part of the lake, which will be available for sunbathing and diving. People coming to dive on the Hancza are not hiding their worries and dissatisfaction, but also the locals, who thanks to the numerous tourists, run a thriving business.

At every step we meet with disbelief and announcements that this is not the last word in this matter. You can be sure, that neither divers, nor people running agrotourism and investing years in infrastructure and raising standards, will not give up without a fight, one of the best and most beautiful diving sites in Poland.
