Many people probably dream of living to a ripe old age like Ray Wooley and not having too many health problems. Meanwhile, the old man who lives in Limassol, Cyprus’ second largest city, is doing well to the extent that he is still a very active diver. Recently, his passion and vitality even received official confirmation, with Wooley being officially named a Guinness World Record holder!

Today it is official that Ray Wooley can refer to himself as the oldest male diver. In an interview with the Cyprus Mail newspaper, he admitted that he received confirmation of this title on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

[blockquote style=”2″]”This is a wonderful Christmas present! I feel extremely lucky to still be so fit and healthy and I intend to keep diving for as long as I can.” – admitted Wooley[/blockquote].

In August, this remarkable 90-year-old spent his birthday… diving for 41 minutes on the wreck of the ferry M/S “Zenobia” – one of the biggest wreck attractions in Cyprus. It was his birthday dive in the coastal waters of the city of Larnaca that earned him the title of the oldest and still active diver in the world.

Previously, this record belonged to the US-born Erwin Paul Staller, who was born on 14 May 1921 and won his title on 24 October 2014, when he was 93 years and 163 days old. As you can see, the new record holder has slightly improved the result, no less huge admiration and respect is due to both seniors.

Ray Wooley began his diving adventure in the 1960s and it continues to this day. Full of energy and in great shape, he promotes a healthy lifestyle. He also encourages people of all ages to try scuba diving, ensuring that a person is never too old to do what they love.
