Guillaume Néry is back in competition!

Prominent French freediver Guillaume Néry has announced that after a 4-year break, he has decided to return to competition. He announced the news of resuming his competitive career at the beginning of 2019 via his social media account.

This decision is probably influenced by the fact that this year’s AIDA World Championships will be held in Nice. So there is no better backdrop for a spectacular comeback than his well-known home waters. At the same time, we can expect that it is during the struggle in France, from 7-14 September, that Néry’s peak of form in 2019 will fall.

The last time Guillaume Néry took part in a freediving competition was in Cyprus, where he dived to a depth of 126 metres, setting a new French record. But before he could do so, an accident involving the athlete reverberated.

During one of his last attempts before the competition, due to a badly marked rope, Néry found himself at a greater depth than he had planned, as a result of which his attempt ended in a blackout. Fortunately, nothing happened to the athlete.
