Stormy weather, strong waves and sand movements are causing the Baltic Sea to reveal its secrets, and archaeologists from the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk are going into the field.

At the beginning of the new year Zbigniew Jarocki, Krzysztof Kurzyk, Paweł Litwinienko and Janusz Różycki from the NMM Underwater Research Department conducted a field inspection of a fragment of the side of a wooden shipwreck thrown out by the sea. The find is located on the beach near Chałup.

“During the fieldwork, measurements were taken, photographic documentation, i.e. photogrammetry, and six wood samples were taken. The samples will be submitted for dendrochronological analysis, which will make it possible to determine the chronology of the find,” – says Dr Krzysztof Kurzyk of the NMM Underwater Research Department.

The inventory made by the NMM archaeologists was possible thanks to the help of Mr. Mariusz Kopiński, the manager of the Rozewie Coastal Protection District, for which we would like to thank him very much.
