The wreck of the USS “Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg” has once again turned into an underwater art gallery. This time, the ship sunk in Florida waters hosted an exhibition of works under the common title “Plastic Ocean”. Over the past decade, the vessel has been used many times for similar purposes.

The latest exhibition “Plastic Ocean” presents a collection of works by Austrian photographer Andreas Franke. The occasion for the next exhibition was a round anniversary, as the ship USS “Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg” celebrates an equal 10 years since it was sunk and turned into an artificial reef.

The exhibition presents 24 works by Andreas Franke that represent current trends in the removal and prevention of plastics entering our oceans. Each painting is enclosed in a stainless steel and Plexiglas frame.

The exhibition will remain on the wreck until 25 August 2019. Once the underwater exhibition is complete, the photographs will be exhibited on land.
