Technical diver and human factors expert Gareth Lock has announced the organisation of the first Human Factors in Diving conference

The event will take place on 24-25 September 2021. It will feature leading speakers who research on a daily basis, deal with the application of human factors and improving safety in diving.

The Human Factors in Diving conference will have a virtual character. So participation will be possible from anywhere in the world. The whole is a unique opportunity to share knowledge and skills so, to make our diving safermore effective and enjoyable.

Speakers

The event will feature world-class speakers who will share their knowledge and experience. During the conference we will learn how they have made changes in their diving and what results they have achieved as a result. It will also be a great opportunity to learn how to improve your own dives.

Gareth Lock will be the first and final speaker of the two-day conference. His first lecture will take place on 24 September at 10am and is entitled “A Voyage of Discovery and Learning”. In turn, the second presentation “The Voyage Continues” The second presentation is scheduled for 25 September at 5 p.m. In total, there will be 29 speakers over the two days. Among them are Prof. Simon Mitchell, Diane Chadwick-Jones, Ashley Bugge, Laura Maroni from DAN Europe and Frauke Tillman from DAN.

Gareth Lock is also the author of the book “Under Pressure: Diving Deeper with Human Factors”. This position is considered a textbook when it comes to human factors issues in diving. Working with the dive team of Ashley Bugge and her late husband, Brian, he also travelled to Hawaii in November 2019 to film a documentary about Brian’s accident, entitled “If Only…”.

It is worth noting that only 300 tickets are available. The conference is aimed at divers at all levels of training. From OWD beginners, through cave and CCR divers, to commercial and military divers.
