Floating city in the Pacific

A changing climate is forcing millions of people to abandon their former lifestyles and adapt to new conditions. As you can imagine, the weakest link in the changing climate is the island communities in the Pacific Ocean.

Their unfortunate location (often the islands of the archipelago are at a low altitude above the level of the ocean), as a result of rising ocean levels, leads to frequent flooding and destruction. The destructive influence of the unbridled ocean gives cause for concern about the future of the paradisiacal archipelagos. Their uncertain future has given the signal for futurists to seek a solution to this increasingly pressing problem

Given the dangers of flooding and the uncertain future, the authorities in French Polynesia have signed a declaration to build the world’s first floating city. The investor in this architectural marvel is the California-based Seasteading Institute.

The Artisanopolis project, whose construction will start in 2019, will unite the inhabitants of the archipelago’s 118 islands into one floating city. The developer plans to use state-of-the-art technology, the use of renewable energy and self-sufficient architectural structures in this ambitious project.

The entire infrastructure of the city will be designed for the 21st century. It will be made up of pentagonal and rectangular platforms that can be moved at will. Seeing the possibilities highlighted by the rising level of the ocean, the company is already announcing the construction of more such structures.

This advanced project has the potential to become a prototype for self-sufficient cities of the future, in which humanity will not only draw energy from renewable resources, but will also become an effective antidote to changing climatic conditions.

If the concept is successful, it will be a signal to others and a hope for future generations, similar to what the biblical ark once was.
