Everybody going to Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam, Hurghada or Dahab. The airline, which operates between the British Isles and the Sinai Peninsula, has reduced the weight restrictions for economy class passengers to 23kg per person.

This news was certainly welcomed with joy both by the British, as well as by the numerous Polish community living in the British Empire, which, like the diving community in Poland, in the face of departure faced the questions – “what not to take?” and “how to pack it?”. The change, although at first glance small, in terms of diving equipment, where every kilogram counts, creates a little more room for manoeuvre.

In our country, unfortunately, the situation still does not look good, and when going for a dream holiday, we face a serious problem while packing our suitcases. 20kg, if we take into account diving equipment and traditional luggage, seems to be an impossible limit to keep, so we often decide to pay extra for excess baggage, or leave some of the equipment at home. Stress and nerves, combining and counting every kilogram of luggage, this is not how the beginning of a long-awaited holiday should look like.

The new rules are effective from 1 June 2011. We can only hope that this is a precedent, the first stone that will set off an avalanche and force the other carriers flying to Egypt to increase luggage limits, which are a problem for all divers, going on holiday to the land of the pharaohs. An interesting way to attract customers, have demonstrated at one time Air Malta has introduced a special promotion for the free carriage of diving luggageLet’s hope for more such ideas, and the life of a diver will become much lighter, and the luggage definitely heavier.
