In the capital of the Land of the Great Masurian Lakes, water is abundant. It is in Giżycko, where for twenty years now, the local diving club “Płetwal” has been organising a very special Lazy Monday. All enthusiasts of diving, sailors, rescuers of the Masurian WOPR and ordinary fans of things from the “positively twisted” category meet at the Łuczański Canal in the morning to celebrate Śmigus-Dyngus by jumping from nearby bridges into the waters of the canal.

This year’s edition was the twentieth jubilee. The weather was as good as ever! A beautiful, warm, sunny day gathered near the railway bridge (starting point) many onlookers interested in the event. Walking people followed the whole event with interest and smiles on their faces, and a few sailors became interested in the whole thing to such an extent that they very spontaneously decided to join the jumping divers.

After all the participants had made a few series of jumps, the whole event moved a few dozen metres away, to the rotating bridge under repair, right next to the Teutonic Castle. The second series was just as impressive as the previous one, and some of the participants were simply bursting with enthusiasm, climbing onto the bridge every now and then, only to plunge into the icy water, which not so long ago was covered with ice.

It is worth mentioning that, although the obligatory outfit among the participants was a neoprene suit, there were some daredevils who decided to jump in just swimming trunks or in their clothes!

Afterwards there was time for souvenir photos and changing clothes. Everybody was in a great mood, both the participants and the audience. We would like to congratulate the organisers on the idea and the promotion of the diving holiday and wish them good weather and the best attendance in the coming years.

Or maybe you celebrate various holidays or events in a “diving” way and would like to share it with others via divers24.pl? We look forward to your emails!
