Recently on facebook appeared pictures and announcements of the imminent release of diving figurines “models for divers”. These are perfectly reproduced models of divers, which, depending on our preferences, we can configure into sets corresponding to us. In recent days, orders have already started, so here is a closer look at the subject.
The figures catch the eye, above all, by their very good finish and attention to detail. I am not familiar with the production of this type of “toys”, but I have assembled a few models in my life and I must say that, looking at the photos, there is nothing wrong. I will even say that it is awesome.
After a few moments of staring at the pictures of exemplary models, most of us will probably come to the conclusion that it would be nice to have a similar gem on our shelf. Especially if you can “put them together” in your own way from scratch.
On the homepage modelsfordivers.comyou will find an order creator (store section), which will allow you to create the figure you dream of (probably for most, it will be a miniaturised version of their own configuration).
The first step is to choose the colour of the dry suit, fins and gloves. For the drysuit, the colours available are red, blue and black. The fins can be chosen in red, yellow, white and the traditional black. Dry gloves, apart from the blue classic, are available in black, grey and yellow.
Now that we have chosen the basics, it is time to decide what to put on our backs. You can choose a 2x12l set and a rebreather.
With the first option we again look at the colour palette, which for the cylinders is divided into yellow, white and grey. Additionally, we can choose the colour of the long hose to the dispenser. The available variants are red, yellow, black and blue. The whole can be topped with a sticker on the cylinder with our name or nickname. If we decide on the CCR configuration, playing with colours does not concern us and we only choose the text for the sticker.
The base of our model is complete at this point. However, this is not the end of the fun. Now we can select the details that will make the model even more ours.
Among the accessories we have from 1 to 5 stage cylinders available, where we decide the capacity of the cylinder (7l or 11l), its colour – white, yellow, silver and the colour of the hose – red, yellow, black or blue. As in the case of twine or CCR, we can also label all stages with a sticker with our name and a sticker informing how deep the gas is intended for.
Personally, I was surprised that, when choosing lighting, we can decide on the type of head (HID or LED), which differs in shape (once again, the attention to finish and detail).
Our mini-nurse is already quite packed with gear, but there is no need to limit ourselves. So much stuff rocking from the fin is quite an effort. To relieve our “little friend” we can equip him with DPV (I mean scooter, but since we’re already flirting with being pro, it’s Diver Propulsion Vehicle). Options available in this case include the colour of the scooter – black or grey, or a name sticker.
The last item we can add to the figure is a heating canister. As they say, the devil is in the details and since we already have a twine, a few stage cylinders, a light on the goodman and a scooter, why not go all the way? After all, electric heating for serious technical diving is already a standard.
To top it all off, we can equip our figure with a stand, which will allow for proper display, and a display case, which in turn will protect our model from unwanted touch of our friends. After all, it would be a pity if something happened to the polished figurine. You will probably find this element of the set extremely useful after reading the next paragraph.
Not to be so colourful… With our order we decided on all possible options, preferring the twin 2x12l over the CCR. The total cost… € 257 or 1010 PLN. As you can see the delights of realism, the multitude of colour options, personalisation and finishing are reflected in the cost.
In my opinion, the price is the biggest drawback of the whole figurine. For many people it will probably not be an obstacle, and for example instead of Piłsudski on horseback (my grandfather had one), they will decide to decorate their shelves, desks or other shrines with a miniature version of themselves.
One should also not overlook the fact that the offer is not only addressed to Polish customers. In the case of “professional colleagues” from countries where things are going better, the cost seems more bearable and the whole thing may enjoy considerable success. What will it be like? Time will verify, but this is another initiative that shows that diving is something more than just a sport.
