Diversnight 2020 is coming up this weekend!

This Saturday, 7 November, the next edition of the worldwide Diversnight event will take place! Diving at night across borders has a long tradition and attracts more and more participants every year.

Diversnight takes place every year, on the first Saturday in November. The main purpose of the event is to dive together at night. The time of entry into the water is determined by the calendar and so in 2019, it was… 8.19pm local time, for each of the registered dives, while this year it will be 8.20pm. So the organisers have made sure that for the next few centuries the tradition can be maintained…

The idea itself was born in Norway, and the first edition organised in 2005 gathered as many as 351 divers. Since then, the event was systematically joined by other countries, and in the record-breaking year of 2012, 231 diving sites were registered from 25 countries, where divers could participate in the event!

Although 10 years have passed since the record-breaking year, it has still not managed to beat the result set in 2012. However, this does not mean that the event has ceased to be popular. No, it doesn’t! Every year it still gathers divers from over 20 countries, whose number usually oscillates around 1700 participants.

Who knows? Maybe a new record will be set this year? From the information available we know that divers from 23 countries around the world, including Poland, have already signed up to take part. If you would like to take part in the night diving and make your contribution to the next edition of Diversnight, there is nothing easier! Just use the search engine on the official website of the event.

Diversnight has always been a great opportunity to integrate the local diving community. Unfortunately, due to the current world situation, this aspect of the event has been ruled out. Diversnight 2020 will have to do without the fringe event where there was always an opportunity to talk, laugh and bond.

Nevertheless, we encourage everyone to go for a night dive and take part in the event, taking due precautions. It is said to be safest under water…
