Divers resume search for missing teenager

The search for the second of the missing teenagers in the waters of the Liwiec River has resumed. The brothers, from Mokobód in the Siedlce district of Mazovia, went missing on 29 December 2014. The body of the older, 15-year-old brother was fished out of the river by divers on 2 January. The fate of the 12-year-old remains unknown, in an optimistic scenario police officers assume that as a result of the shock the boy may have moved away from the scene of the tragedy. Nevertheless, the search is still on.

After a break of several days and lowering of the water level, divers can continue the search for the younger of the missing brothers. The bottom of the river near the village of Kapuściaki is being explored, where the body of the older brother was found near a footbridge.

“The body was found by the footbridge, it was hooked to a tree branch under the water, ” explained Waldemar Rospek of the Siedlce fire brigade

In addition to fire brigade divers, the search was also carried out using highly sensitive sonar. In recent days, water has also started to be drained from parts of the riverbed to help divers carry out the search.

According to a spokesman for the Siedlce police, apart from the river, the search is still being conducted in the surrounding forests. To date, it has also not been possible to establish what exactly happened to the boys at the moment before they went missing.

The teenagers left their home in Mokoboda on Monday at around 1 p.m. A few hours later, their parents informed police that the brothers were missing.

In the first few days, several hundred firefighters and police officers carried out a search. On Friday 2 January, firefighter divers fished the body of 15-year-old Marcin out of the Liwiec River. The fate of his 12-year-old brother Paweł is still unknown.
