As you may have noticed, a special box has appeared on our website dedicated to news from Egypt, where Dariusz “Miodzio” Wilamowski is preparing to break Nuno Gomes’ record for the deepest dive in open water. Divers24 is in constant contact with the Polish team, keeping track of their progress.

On Friday 29 July, Darek did another training session, assisted by Andrzej Pniewski and Łukasz Kenig. The rest of the team focused on choosing the best place to anchor the boat from which the main dive will take place. This is very important and poses quite a problem, because at a depth of 350m, another steep rocky fault begins, dropping another hundred or so meters deeper.

The trip was also a great opportunity to test the measuring equipment that “Miodzio” will use during the record attempt. The test of the Digital Uwatec device went without any problems. The depth gauge was lowered to 368m and no damage or faults were found. This seems to confirm the information provided by the manufacturer that the device is capable of working to a depth of 420m.

The rest of the day was spent by the members of Project355, measuring and marking depths on the drop line. In the evening, as every day, there was a briefing and assignment of tasks for the following days. Today, the lowering rope will be set up, along with markers and a rope on which more cylinders will be deposited. After completing this task, Darek will start training along the rope.

Further news on the progress of preparations will be coming soon. Stay tuned as the whole operation begins to gather pace.
