Brothers Islands available for divers again!

After almost 4 months, the legendary dive spot – the Egyptian Brothers Islands, are again available for divers! Thanks to a new directive introduced by the local authorities, the diving ban we informed our readers about in early December has been lifted.

The site was closed to dive tourism for almost four months due to shark incidents that began to occur in the waters surrounding Brothers Islands. These were suspected to have been caused by too much human activity in the area. The ban, and the subsequent calm in the surrounding waters, was expected to result in the return of normal predator behaviour.

The site has been reopened to divers, but new rules apply. The main change is a complete ban on attracting sharks by scattering all organic waste and bait, effective within a 5 Mm radius around the islands.

The number of boats that can take divers to the area has also been restricted. From now on, only 18 boats per day will be allowed to take their clients diving near the Brothers Islands, and diving itself is only permitted between 6am and 4pm.
