From time to time, nature reveals itself in all its glory, reminding us how small we are when confronted with the world. In the waters of California’s Monterey Bay, just such an extraordinary juxtaposition took place, where a man came face to face with a giant whale.

The bay is home to many species of marine mammals and is on the migration route of grey swimmers and humpback whales, making it a popular spot for whale watching. So it’s no wonder that it’s here that such amazing photos and videos have been captured.

A whale jutting out over the surface of the ocean, with unsuspecting people nearby, sailing in the boat “Baja Sueno”.

[blockquote style=”2″]”The whale is huge! If I was a fisherman, I’d probably need new underwear,” said the photographer who captured the incredible moment.[/blockquote]The humpback presenting himself in full glory made the fishing boat look incredibly tiny in comparison to his colossal body.

The photographer – Douglas Craft, took the pictures from a different boat and at an angle, making the animal look even bigger. In addition to Craft’s amazing photos, Kate Cummings managed to capture everything on video. The whole jump from start to finish.

[blockquote style=”2″]”It’s cool that you were able to capture this video. The whale had already surfaced much further from the boat several times, but sometimes when whales surfaced multiple times, they headed in a certain direction. I came to the conclusion that the next surfacing would be close to the boat, as the whale was heading in that direction. However, I have to admit that I was very surprised at how perfectly the whale and the boat aligned with each other.” [/blockquote]

Adult humpback whales weigh around 30 tonnes and range in size from 12 to 16 metres. The humpback whale, due to its various behaviours, is a very graceful and popular object of observation among whale lovers.
