The German company has recently presented a new model of shoes, created entirely from materials obtained after recycling trash lying in the ocean waters. This unusual model is the result of the German giant’s cooperation with the environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans, which is trying to combat the progressive pollution of the oceans.

Unfortunately this is only a prototype and will not go on sale in the near future. It is also not said whether this unusual model will ever hit shop shelves. What is certain, however, is that a series of shoes will appear in the coming year, using materials obtained by recycling ocean trash.

“We are proud that Adidas has joined us in this mission and is committing its strength and creativity to show that something of value can be made from ocean trash,” said Cyrill Gutsch of Parley for the Oceans.

The design of this unusual model was inspired by the main ingredient from which the shoe was created – fishing nets. Both the pattern and the colours leave no illusions and evoke the right associations.

Another interesting fact is that the production of these unusual shoes, does not generate any additional waste and uses 100% of the available material!

“Knitwear makes it possible to use the material one hundred per cent, because we don’t have to cut the material as in classical production. We only use as much as we need and nothing is lost.” – explains Eric Liedtke, acting as one of the Adidas Group’s directors.

The “raw material” needed for the entire project was obtained and provided by another organisation well known in our environment – Sea Shepherd. In the course of the expedition, which lasted 110 days off the west coast of Africa, among other things, illegal fishing nets, various objects and plastic remnants, as well as a whole host of different rubbish that unfortunately found its way into the water, were fished out.
