A blue lagoon has been discovered under an island in Ireland! – video

Below Owey Island in County Donegal, kayakers have discovered an unusual blue lagoon! The location was previously unknown and was stumbled upon by complete accident. The unusual discovery was made by a group of kayakers, Iain Miller and Fiona nic Fhionnlaoich, who decided to welcome the sunrise at the site. According to available information, the site is fully accessible and great for diving.

As it turns out, along the coast and islands of West Donegal, many spectacular and little-known granite caves can be encountered. Perhaps the most impressive and largest of these are found on the islands of Umphin, Owey and Arramore. Access to these little-known underground treasures, is only possible from a boat and only when the sea is calm enough.

[blockquote style=”2″]”A few weeks ago Fiona nic Fhionnlaoich, Paulina Kaniszewska and I, took a very early morning paddle in kayaks to Stag Rocks, 7km west of the Donegal coast. Once back on the mainland we took a short trip to the sea caves on the north-eastern side of Owey Island. As the sun was in an ideal position, direct sunlight shone directly into the entrance holes of most of the caves on this side of the island. This created a spectacular blue lagoon effect.” – writes Ian Miller on his website[/blockquote].

Sunlight falling into the water at the right angle creates the so-called blue lagoon effect. To be able to experience it, several factors must come together at the same time, but if we are lucky, the water becomes almost transparent and the walls shine in red, purple, pink and orange.

[blockquote style=”2″]”Objects on or in the water then appear as if they are hanging in mid-air. The blue lagoon effect is a real explosion of light and a surreal experience. Our film doesn’t even do half justice to how beautiful it all looks in person,” Miller enthuses.[/blockquote]
