A real tragedy occurred in Malaysia, where six rescue divers belonging to a firefighting unit were killed while searching for a missing teenager. The boy went missing on Wednesday, October 3, in a mine pond located near the city of Puchong, near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

According to information available in the Asian media, the divers leading the rescue operation were caught in a strong whirlpool. The firefighters were equipped with standard service diving equipment and the whole group was connected by a rope. At one point they were swept away by an extremely strong current. The rescuers were swept by the whirlpool, from which they could not get out, losing one piece of their diving equipment after another.

The rescuers fought for about 30 minutes while other staff tried to get them out. Unfortunately, when they succeeded, none of the divers were conscious anymore. Selangor state fire and rescue department chief Azmi Osman said the medical team performed CPR, but it was unsuccessful.

The missing teenager has still not been found. According to witnesses, the boy was fishing on the banks of a pond with two friends when he slipped and fell into the water.

This is the first time that as many as 6 rescuers involved in a rescue operation have died in Malaysia. The causes of the tragedy are currently being investigated by the police.
