Wind-driven expedition

The expedition “Gnane by the wind”, organised by the Maritime Institute in Gdansk, the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdansk and Generpol Sp. z o.o. is taking place from 6 to 20 June. During the expedition the wreck was discovered lying at a depth of 42 metres. The structure of the wreck was completely destroyed, but there were still about forty cannons lying on the bottom. The find is tentatively dated to the 17th-18th century.

Driven by the windOn 20 June at 11.30 a.m. the IMOR vessel is scheduled to return from the expedition and enter the harbour near the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Then the presentation of the finding will take place. This will be followed by a press conference on the expedition.

Conference programme
Date: 20 June 2011 11.30 am
Place: Polish Maritime Museum, 9-13 Ołowianka Street, 80-751 Gdańsk

In the programme:
11.30 – return of the IMOR vessel from the expedition, entering the harbour under the CMM, presentation of the find.
12.00 – beginning of press conference, film showing cast iron cannons lying on the seabed, circumstances of finding the wreck, description of the wreck and its historical value, preparations and scope of cooperation, presentation of underwater photos and sonograms, questions and answers
12.40 – end of press conference, refreshments
