Each of us has a limit, which we push a little further every now and then. But regardless of whether we practice scuba diving, like our speaker Jarek Kur, or simply want to treat the underwater sport as a hobby, we certainly want to do it safely. Dr Jacek Kot will tell us about those less fortunate dives which unfortunately did not end successfully.
During the lectures with today’s featured speakers, the theme will be diver’s health and the prevention of accidents underwater. Both in recreational diving and deep cave diving, saturation diving, nitrox diving, etc. In this connection, we present two people who have the issue of safe diving in common.
Jacek Kot – is a medical anaesthesiologist who, apart from his medical career, has been consistently developing as a diver and instructor. Since 1995, he has been an employee of the National Centre for Hyperbaric Medicine in Gdynia, where he obtained his PhD in medical sciences on the basis of his thesis entitled “Programming of nitrox saturated exposures”.
Nitrox is his daily bread – he co-authored the book “NITROX: A Diver’s Guide” (2006). He has been diving since 1981 and for many years has held the following instructor and specialty certifications: M3 KDP/CMAS diving instructor, MN2 KDP/CMAS nitrox instructor, TDI nitrox instructor, TDI SCR instructor, IANTD trimix diver.
He is also a medical consultant for DAN Europe and reviews deep dive plans. He has presented many times at DAN conferences, including a lecture on the use of oxygen in decompression. This time he will talk about fatal accidents in technical diving.
Jarek Kur – biologist, speleologist, scientist and professional diver. As a Doctor of Biological Sciences initially cooperated with the Institute of Nature Protection PAN in Krakow. Since 2008 he has participated in the deepest projects in professional diving on the Polish shelf, performing deep and saturation dives.
In his free time, he publishes scientific articles on biospeleology and explores caves and wrecks. He is passionate about rebreathers, underwater photography and videography. You can read a bit more about him and his projects on his website.
During his talk he will tell us about the diver’s training and adaptation to cave diving.
