MGM has announced an all-star cast for Thirteen Lives. The production will tell the story of a rescue operation in a flooded cave in Thailand.

Deadline portal has reported that the cast of Thirteen Lives includes Hollywood stars Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Joela Edgerton. The list also includes the names of Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Paul Gleeson, Tom Bateman, Nophand Boonyai, Teeradon ‘James’ Supapunpinyo, Vithaya Pansringarma, Sahajakit Boonrth, Thiraphat Sajakul and Weir Sukollawat.

In turn, the acclaimed and Oscar-winning Ron Howard will be behind the camera. His credits include such films as Cocoon, Willow, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code.

Events of 2018

Therescue operation in the Tham Luang cave was followed with bated breath by the whole world. Fortunately, it was a success. 17 days after 12 boys and their coach were reported missing, the last of the missing was rescued alive and well.

A total of 90 cave diving specialists took part. The 40 local speleon divers were supported by a group of 50 divers from around the world, including Poland. Among them were British cave diving veterans Rick Stanton and John Volanthen. They were among the first to reach the trapped boys and their coach.

As far as we know, it is Rick Stanton who will be played by Viggo Mortensen, with Colin Farrell taking on the role of John Volanthen. Edgerton is set to play Dr Richard Harris, Bateman the diver Chris Jewell and Gleeson Jason Mallinson.

Diving is my passion and I always wondered if there was a purpose to it. The last two weeks have made me realise that this is what I have been preparing for all my life,” said action leader John Volanthen

According to available information, the film is to be shot in Australia and Thailand. We should expect more information soon, as production will begin later this month.
