A businessman from Esperance, Australia, has combined a passion for freediving, a love of design and 30 years of experience working with fibreglass. The result? A product designed to appeal to divers around the world. See what Craig Neilson has come up with here!

In two years Seaduced Fins has grown from a garage project to a product ready for distribution in all parts of the world. Neilson ran his own business designing and manufacturing fibreglass composite products for over 30 years, mainly for the mining industry. In his spare time he pursued his passion for spearfishing and catching rare specimens of abalone shells (known in the world’s cuisines as abalones – an exquisite and very expensive dish).

Two years ago he told himself it was time to combine his professional experience with his passion for diving.

[blockquote style=”2″]”I woke up one morning and just knew I had to start making these fins. All my previous experience started to come together… from that point on I started researching and developing the manufacturing processes, got to how I really wanted to build them and managed to get some equipment together.” – said Neilson[/blockquote].

Seaduced Fins offers three series of ‘blades’ – Shark Eyes, Classic Black and Tribal Whale – with plans, before the end of 2018, to expand the range to nine models. The fins are made from pure carbon, carbon fibre or a mix of carbon fibre and other materials.

So far about 100 pairs have been sold, but Neilson is hoping that this will be a breakthrough year for his company. He aims to achieve sales of 500 units and continue to grow, he said, but is aware that beginnings, as is usually the case, will be difficult.

[blockquote style=”2″]”It is quite a unique product. In this case, it’s more about the quality of the fin being produced than anything else. I’ve solved all the problems and I’m ready for full-scale production, and now we’re going to make a name for ourselves in the international freediving community.”[/blockquote]
