To the group of unusual ideas and concept-designs featuring futuristic houses on water, another one has been added, this time in the shape of a flying… ekhm I mean floating saucer. Prices of seaside houses on attractive coasts are rising as fast as the level of the surrounding water. Still, there is no shortage of people who want to have their own four corners of the house with a view of the ocean. And it is probably for them that the project of a floating house in the shape of a UFO was created.
The Italian mini-yacht manufacturer’s latest idea may seem a little futuristic, but it certainly has something in it and there should be no problem finding those willing to live on the water.
According to the creators of the floating UFO themselves, Pierpaolo Lazzarini and Luca Solla, the home of their project is designed to live on water and move slowly around the world. In practice, this comes down to a speed of 3.5 knots provided by a Torqeedo Deep Blue 1800 electric thruster.
The engine is, of course, powered by the energy obtained from the solar panels installed in our UFO house. In addition, the house can be equipped with other, optional sources of energy using wind or sea currents. All of these energy sources are intended to ensure the functioning of the house, as well as the ability to move it.
In addition to using ecological and renewable sources of energy, the Italian manufacturer’s house is able to turn rainwater or sea water into drinkable liquid, which significantly affects the comfort of living and moving over long distances. It will also allow the vegetable garden located on board to be adequately irrigated. This is another element of survival, no matter how long you are away from civilisation.
As for the structure itself, it consists of two hemispheres made of fibreglass, which form the two floors of our house. The interior can be designed according to our needs, or we can use ready-made solutions. The idea is to have a kitchen, which can be transformed into a dining/lounge area of 20 m² (upper level) and a bathroom and bedroom area of 10 m². The lower level is complemented by a large window, allowing us to admire the life flourishing under the surface of the water.
To maintain adequate stability, the entire structure uses a special flexible anchoring system. The main part of the house-UFO can be calibrated with a compass, maintaining the correct position and angle at all times, even during very difficult weather conditions. At least that is what the manufacturer assures.
The whole idea has not yet been realised, and its creators are currently looking for an investor to finance the creation of the first, fully functional prototype. As you can guess, the matter is not cheap, because the estimated cost of the first construction is estimated at $800,000. This amount, however, should not discourage those who like the idea, because the estimated cost of one unit after the start of production is to be close to $200,000, which in fact is not too high compared to, for example, yachts.
