Two divers have died in an accident while wreck diving off the coast of the Dutch town of Scharendijke, in the province of Zeeland. According to the online edition of nltimes, the dive was conducted on Saturday evening and the men were experienced divers.

Following the report of the disappearance, emergency services and uniformed personnel swung into action. The body of the first diver was found on Sunday evening, while the search for the second missing person continued on Monday.

The wreck on which the men dived is the locally known “Le Serpent”. The vessel is located in recreational limits, between 19 and 29 metres deep. Visibility on the wreck does not usually exceed a few metres, and the low water temperature adds to the difficulty of the dive.

It is the very poor visibility that usually prevails in the vicinity of the wreck that has often been the cause of accidents occurring at this site. As some divers claimed, they did not even realise that they were inside a sunken vessel.

According to information provided by local police, the bodies of both men were located inside the wreckage by Dutch navy divers. The causes of the incident are now being determined by police.
