This time the research units “Echo 2” – hydrographic-measuring unit and “Saracen II” – measuring-diving unit, with employees of the Museum of Polish Arms on board, are exploring the area near Podczela, located east of the site surveyed last year. It was here that previously unknown wrecks of three vessels were discovered.
They discovered three shipwrecks off the Kołobrzeg coastThe wrecksof three ships were discovered off the Kołobrzeg coast by archaeologists from the Museum of Polish Arms. [blockquote style=”2″]”During the works 3 new wreck sites were found. The area at the height of Podczele was the place of landing of the Russian army during the Seven Years’ War, a worldwide conflict which lasted from 1756 to 1763. In 1757 Russia joined the war against Prussia. During the war the fortress of Kołobrzeg was fought over three times. On August 26, 1760, during the second attack, the Russians carried out a gigantic (for those times) landing operation in the vicinity of Podczele. – reads a message on the museum’s website[/blockquote].
The waters off Bagicz and Podczele hide many unexplored secrets. All because, since the end of the Second World War, this region was occupied by the Soviet army, which declared it a closed zone. Since the museum began work, more fragments of the history hidden at the bottom have slowly been uncovered, such as the wreck of a German auxiliary Kriegsmarine unit, discovered in 2017.
[blockquote style=”2″], “It cannot be ruled out that in the area at Podczel, surveyed in 2018 by the Museum of Polish Arms in Kołobrzeg, there are artefacts dating back to the Seven Years’ War (years 1756-1763.). It should be noted that the relics of the great 18th century landing action are a real treat for historians and archaeologists, rarely found in world collections. Besides, it is a fragment of our local history – Pomeranian and Kołobrzeg history, which ignites imagination and still awaits discovery. Will we find treasures from 300 years ago in Podczele? Time will tell. We already know that we have 3 new wreck sites, now we are trying to establish what times they come from,” said Aleksander Ostasz, director of the Museum of Polish Arms in Kołobrzeg[/blockquote].
The action Wraki Kołobrzegu is held under the patronage of: Marek Gróbarczyk, Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, and Tomasz Tamborski, Starost of Kołobrzeg.
