State police have announced that the wreckage of a plane that had been sought for nearly two weeks has been found. The machine and the two men piloting it went missing on May 12. The crashed wreckage of the avionette was found at the bottom of Lake Michigan, near the shores of Frankfort, in Benzie County.

The wreckage of the Beech Craft Bonanza 35 aircraft was found at a depth of more than 155 metres, about ¼ mile offshore. Investigators conducted the search using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle – AUV type device and through this device they spotted an aircraft-like structure on the bottom.

A remotely operated ROV equipped with a camera was then used to confirm that the aircraft on the bottom was the one that went missing on 12 May. The robot was also used to search the area near the plane, as well as its interior. Unfortunately, the bodies of the accident victims could not be found.
