A new series has appeared on the popular Animal Planet channel, which is sure to appeal to lovers of marine flora and fauna. “Aquarium” is a production bringing closer the daily life and work in the largest public aquarium in the USA – Georgia Aquarium, in Atlanta.

The Georgia Aquarium is the fourth largest aquarium in the world and the largest located in the United States. It fills a total of 10 million gallons (37.9 million litres) of water and is home to more than 10,000 marine animals from 500 – often strange and unusual – species. A series of highlights from the aquarium, including South Sea otter cliffs, endangered African penguins, rescued California sea lions and manta rays.

The Animal Planet series centres around the highlights of the aquarium and introduces some of its inhabitants, including a sea kalean (a type of otter) rescued in the South Sea, endangered African penguins, rescued California sea lions, manta rays and many more.

In the first episode, which aired on Sunday, May 19, Georgia Aquarium staff travelled to Cape Town, South Africa, to help rehabilitate African penguins, as well as reintroduce a group of these animals to the wild.

The next episodes will also be interesting! They will feature an elderly otter called ‘Pinkie’ who has a recurring health problem and who the veterinary team are trying to help by doing their best to diagnose the ailment and administer the appropriate treatment. There is also a green turtle named ‘Tank’, three common seals ‘Rose’, ‘Floyd’ and ‘Cerberus’ and an unusual duo of housemates in the form of a sea lion named ‘Hunter’ and a common seal named ‘Toby’. These are just some of the characters, of course, but you’ll have to follow the residents of the Georgia Aquarium to meet the rest!
