The long-awaited film The Rescue hits cinemas in October. The production takes a look behind the scenes and the course of an unprecedented rescue operation in a flooded Thai cave in 2018.

The memorable events that took place in the flooded Tham Luang c ave in Thailand form the axis of the action in The Rescue. In the summer of 2018, the eyes of the world were on an international cave rescue team. Experienced technical divers from around the world fought against time to save the lives of 12 teenage boys from a football team and their coach.

The Rescue speleoncurer Documentary film The Rescue tells this incredible story from the perspective of a team of cave divers. The greatest experts in the field cave explorations from all over the world came to Thailand at that time. It was a testing hour during which they had to use all their knowledge and experience to save the lives of those trapped in the cave.

Hour after hour and day after day, people all over the world followed the rescue operation in Tham Luang cave. Media from all over the world sent their staff to cover everything that was happening on the spot. The web was flooded with reports and… media fuss.

The film The Rescue offers a different perspective on all the events. It is the story of divers who have dedicated their entire lives to perfecting their skills and gathering experience. As some of them later admitted, one hour of rehearsal in Thailand made them realise what all those years of learning and training were for. That all their effort was not just art for art’s sake, but, albeit unconsciously, they were preparing for this moment.

The Boy in the Tham Luang Cave The Rescue The Rescue

Who is the film for? As the filmmakers say, The Rescue should be seen by everyone. Adults, children, and preferably whole families, because the documentary affects on so many levels that surely everyone will draw something from it for themselves. Although diving is an important element here, you don’t have to be a diver to get carried away by the whole story. It is full of universal values such as sacrifice, selflessness, willingness to help, facing adversity and fighting for one’s life.

Without a doubt, it is also worth emphasising that although we know perfectly well how the story will end, the tension that accompanies it is enormous. In The Rescue we relive the whole story step by step, together with its participants.
