The U-Film crew have announced the completion of shooting and post-production for their latest documentary film exploring the story of the wrecked liner HMHS “Britannic”. The vessel, converted into a hospital ship, sank after hitting a mine on 21 November 1916. It comes as no surprise, then, that everyone was keen to get the premiere out in time for the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.

The film contains sensational footage recorded underwater by a team of researchers from U-Boot Malta. The images have been meticulously selected from a wealth of footage recorded over the years during successive expeditions.

A lot of attention and effort was also put into the recreation and staging of historical events, describing the fate of the ship during the First World War. This allows the viewer to feel the emotions accompanying the people on board the ship during the turmoil of war and in its last moments before sinking.

Richie Kohler, a well-known diver and wreck explorer, is responsible for the narration. This character needs no introduction to Polish viewers. Richie was a guest, among others, at the Wreck Festival in Łódź with his lecture “Shadow Divers”. Kohler is an expert on HMHS “Britannic”, so he introduces the viewer to history like few others.

Using the latest technology, special effects, computer animation and 3D visualisation, it has been possible to create an amazing piece of work that has brought to life the memories and stories of those associated with the ‘Britannic’. It allows the viewer to travel back in time 100 years and experience in an almost tangible way the events of late November 1916.
