The most expensive underwater park for divers is being built!

King Hamad’s personal representative, Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment, HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa announced on Saturday, January 19, the implementation of a plan to build the world’s largest underwater theme park! Bahrain’s newest attraction is to feature an area of over 100,000 m² and a crown jewel, in the form of the sunken wreck of a Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet!

Intended to give a positive impact to the underwater environment and the tourism sector, the project will be carried out in collaboration with the Supreme Council for the Environment, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and the private sector. The whole project is expected to be fully environmentally friendly and promote green lifestyles.

The main attraction of the park in the Principality of Bahrain is to be the decommissioned 70-metre-long fuselage of a Boeing 747, which will be the largest aircraft wreck ever sunk as an artificial reef. In addition, the diving community can look forward to many, many other attractions, meticulously prepared with underwater tourists in mind.

In addition to the plane, the park will also feature other structures, such as a replica of a traditional pearl trader’s house from Bahrain (the principality is famous for its pearl fishing and trade), artificial coral reefs and various sculptures made of ecological materials. Everything is to be created and sunk to ensure the intensified flourishing of marine ecosystems and thus the development of diving tourism.

This unique project is due to be completed very soon and will welcome its first guests to its underwater doorstep before the start of summer 2019!
