Every day, divers from the surface descend to the station, armed with special steel containers, inside which are the things needed by the people staying at the base. These transport containers are nothing more than modified paint cans, equipped with a valve allowing to equalize the pressure.

Thanks to this simple technology, the cans and their contents avoid being crushed during transport and the base’s occupants can enjoy a meal and clean clothes. On the return journey, on the other hand, the valve allows the pressure to equalize so as to avoid rupture by expanding air.

The same route is used to remove unnecessary items, such as rubbish and dirty clothes, from the station. As you can see, life under water still depends on what is on the surface. However, to supply the underwater station with what it needs to live, we do not need to use modern submarines or space technology, sometimes a converted paint can is enough.

Have you ever wondered where the underwater station gets its food supplies and the basic necessities we need in everyday life, such as clean socks? There is no washing machine or food storage on the research station, and essentials are supplied on an ongoing basis in a very simple way.
