The freighter Amuraskaya, carrying valuable cargo, went missing at the end of last month in the Sea of Okhotsk – one of the main trade routes from Russia to the Asian market.

The unit was manned by 9 sailors and was built in 1972. After an initial check, no casualties were found. According to Russian officials, the search will continue, which involves a thorough exploration of the wreck.

The Amuraskaya was found by divers and a rescue team at a depth of 25m. Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of the sinking was the movement of cargo inside the hold, which caused the vessel to heel uncontrollably. The traces found and the absence of lifeboats suggest that the crew certainly tried to evacuate.

Charges of overloading the vessel, sending it in adverse weather conditions and negligence hang over the shipowner.
