The latest idea aimed at owners of “go pro-like” devices is the Reg-Mount, which allows you to place the camera next to the 2nd stage of the automatic. This not only leaves both hands free, but also gives you a new perspective for photos and videos, and you can be sure to capture everything in your field of vision.
Although on the market there are already accessories allowing to mount small cameras on the chest or next to the mask, which allows us to “free” our hands, in practice they have some limitations, which – at least in theory – do not apply to the Reg-Mount solution.
Mounting the camera at torso height, however, is not a dream perspective for recording your underwater adventures, while deciding to place the camera next to the mask, you have to reckon with bubble clouds which will appear in the frame from time to time (provided that you use open circuit, of course). There is, of course, also the possibility of placing the camera on the Goodman mount, but it forces us to dive in the “superman” position, which may be tiring in the case of longer immersion.
The solution offered by Reg-Mount not only eliminates the above-mentioned problems resulting from the limitations of other systems, but also, due to its location, allows you to view the recorded material at any time and to have trouble-free control over the basic parameters, such as battery level, making sure that recording is on, etc.
As for the technical issues, both assembly and disassembly are quite quick and easy. We can also test whether it suits us better to place the camera directly in front of the 2nd stage or more to the side and choose the more comfortable option.
Speaking of comfort, I’m sure you’ve already had the thought “hey, hey, but it all weighs a lot and carrying it in your teeth is definitely not the most pleasant”. As it turns out, the weight of the mount, camera and optional lighting (because there is room for them as well) is compensated by the buoyancy compensation system which reduces the weight of the set.
The Reg-Mount is compatible with the familiar GoPro, YS mount or the standard ¼ ” screw mount on a tripod.
Price: $35-47 (depending on the components included in the kit). Some may also be interested in the fact that it is possible to purchase the buoyancy compensation system itself.
