On 5 August this year there was an accident that claimed the life of a 49-year-old diver from Poland. The dive was conducted during a trip to the legendary and extremely popular Austrian diving site Attersee. Now, at the request of the family of the deceased diver, Polish services are investigating for manslaughter.

The trip was organised by one of the diving centres in Bydgoszcz. Most of the participants of the expedition went to explore the area, while three of the experienced divers decided to enter the water, reports Gazeta Pomorska in its online edition.

[blockquote style=”2″]”Only three men, experienced divers, were diving. On 5 August it was their second descent underwater,” says prosecutor Adam Lis, deputy district prosecutor of Bydgoszcz-Północ. – “While still on shore they agreed that two of them would go down to a depth of 50 metres, while the most experienced one – to 70. At about 50 metres they saw each other and confirmed that everything was O.K. Then one dived deeper. He did not surface. His corpse was later found.”[/blockquote]

For the time being, Polish investigators have questioned the participants of the expedition during which the accident occurred. Since the beginning, the Austrian police and prosecutors have also been involved in the case. An autopsy was performed there, and now it is being established whether the equipment used by the deceased Pole did not influence the course of events, and whether the persons responsible for organising the expedition complied with all their obligations.

The victim of the accident, about which we informed on August 6was an experienced diver and was certified to conduct technical dives. The man lived near Bydgoszcz, where he worked as a pharmacist.

“Schwarzen Brücke”, where the accident occurred, is a very popular but also extremely dangerous diving location. Many fatal accidents involving divers have occurred here in recent years.
