Perdix – the new computer from Shearwater

For a few days, information about the appearance of a new model of dive computer – Perdix – from the Shearwater stable has been floating around the web. After the initial teaser, which we recently posted on our fb profile and a lot of interest from you, we decided to take a closer look at the topic. Therefore, today we publish a material that should answer at least some of the questions that may bother people interested in this device.

At the very beginning, it should be noted that it is a product dedicated to technical divers regardless of their level of training and configuration (OC/CC). Of course, recreational divers will also appreciate the charms of Perdix, however they will use only a very small percentage of power, for which they will have to pay dearly.

Perdix already at first glance, both in terms of appearance and operating formula, brings to mind well-known devices from the Petrel line, but unlike earlier models, its size is more compact. The interface is operated by two buttons, so navigation is relatively simple and intuitive.

As with the Petrel series, the user gets a large and clear LCD screen. In this particular case, the designers have opted for a 2.4″ colour matrix, characterised by high contrast, which makes the computer display very clear. Both the type of fonts, their size and colour, can be defined by the user.

The whole device is powered by an AA type battery, which can be easily and quickly replaced by the user. Thanks to the connection via bluetooth, we can download the appropriate software and configure the connection with devices such as Mac, PC or iOS.

Shearwater Perdix can operate in the following modes:

  • The Shearwater Perdix dive computer features the following modes of operation:
  • OC Rec – 3 gas nitrox recreational computer
  • OC Tec – Multi gas, trimix decompression computer
  • CC INT – Closed circuit fixed PPO2
  • Gauge – Bottom timer with stopwatch and dive logging

Like all Shearwater devices, Perdix also uses the Buhlmann ZHL-16C algorithm. The user can adjust its conservatism using the device settings. Optionally, the VPM-B algorithm can be purchased for the device.

Price – approx. $775
