Activities in the construction of the world’s deepest pool are moving forward and the Blue Abyss project is entering its next phase. Approval of plans and full design is expected by summer 2019, with the facility in turn due to be completed and operational by spring 2021.

The pool was first announced to be located near London, but it appears that construction has been moved from Essex to Merseyside near Liverpool. The extraordinary facility will hold 35,000m³ of water, making it the largest and deepest pool in the world.

What is expected to set it apart from others is its focus on such branches as professional diving, testing and research into the development of ROVs and AUVs, and work on space projects. Of course, there will be plenty of room for recreational and technical divers, the pool will be widely available for training purposes, and is also expected to have a mission to promote diving as a sport. All based on modern facilities that meet the highest standards.

The designers did not forget about such essential elements of this complex as a hyperbaric chamber, a simulator allowing to create a state of weightlessness, which is necessary in projects related to e.g. the Moon or Mars, where gravity is much lower than on Earth. The complex will be complemented by a hotel with 120 rooms, 6 lecture halls and a canteen.

The complex is intended to become the largest training facility for recreational divers, technical divers, freedivers and professional divers in the world! Taking into account the great condition of the British diving world, as well as great transport connections in the vicinity of the English capital, there will certainly be no shortage of people willing to visit.

Interestingly, in addition to divers and lovers of underwater activities of all kinds, the pool will also be used for training purposes by the European Space Agency (ESA).

In addition to the swimming pool, the location will have parking, a hotel and all the infrastructure that visitors, coming from as far away as the world, may need.
