Motorway of the sea Świnoujście - Trelleborg to be built

As port.szczecin.pl reports, the European Commission has decided to give financial support to a project which will create a motorway of the sea between Poland and Sweden. The connection will operate between our city of Świnoujście and the Swedish city of Trelleborg. The whole project was proposed jointly by the authorities of both ports. The

The whole project was proposed jointly by the authorities of both ports. The design of the motorway was developed and based on the existing connections operating along the route. The full name of the project is:

“Ensuring sustainable services along the Trelleborg-Swinoujscie motorway of the sea by upgrading port infrastructure, developing intermodal transport and integrating with hinterland corridors”

The need for this type of connection is dictated by the need to create alternative transport routes dedicated to freight transport. The funds for this project will come from TEN-T funds.

As port.szczecin.pl reports, both the Polish and Swedish sides, as well as the hauliers operating on the route, are prepared to handle significantly more freight than at present.
