Hydroid – Recreational Rebreather in the form of a helmet? – video

During the biggest diving show in the world, DEMA Show, which took place from 11 to 16 November in Orlando, Florida, as usual, many new equipment novelties were presented. The construction that caused a real sensation and a lot of interest was the Hydroid recreational rebreather.

The device does not resemble anything that has been introduced on the market so far and is closer to futuristic visions known from science-fiction films than the equipment seen on the shelves and racks of diving centres. But who knows? Maybe this is the direction the industry will soon take…

As far as design details are concerned, the whole thing weighs 4.5 kg, allows immersion to a maximum depth of 42 metres and carries out an immersion of 60 minutes in that time. The helmet has replaceable regeneration cartridges that absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. And that is roughly all that is known about the new rebreather.

The Hydroid is still in the testing stage and has not yet gone on sale. From the information available from the manufacturer – Tha Aquabreather Conpany, Aquabreather LLC, we know that it will appear on the market within the next year and will cost around $4000.

We hope to hear more from its creators in person at the Boot Fair in Düsseldorf in January.
