How we perceive the underwater world depends largely on what we see. That is why Diving maskthe mask we use is a key piece of equipment for all divers. When choosing your new mask, the Fourth Element Scout is certainly worth a closer look.
Cave diving is a very different experience from snorkelling in tropical seas. Similarly diving in areas of lower visibility, in temperate climates, is different from the almost unlimited visibility in some blue waters.
The Fourth Element lens system used in the Scout mask is designed to provide an optimal experience whatever the conditions. Whether for underwater photographers who want to maximise light transmission, or for wreck divers who want to improve their perception of dimly lit environments.
The Scout is a frameless diving mask with a single lens that has an angled profile to maximise the field of view. This is complemented by a soft silicone shield for optimum comfort and fit. It also features an elastic strap made from recycled materials.
A special guide is available on the Fourth Element website which will allow you to personalise your mask Scout to your needs. In addition to the colour of the silicone, we can also choose the lens we are interested in and create the perfect whole.
There are four lenses to choose from in the Scout mask:
Inspired by the golden visors of NASA astronauts, the Shield lens provides UV protection and reduces glare. This makes it fully suitable for tropical environments and warmer waters. It is ideal for shallower diving and snorkelling wherever there is plenty of light. UVA and UVB radiation is reflected by the lens and reduces the eye’s exposure to potentially harmful rays.
Maximises the amount of light transmitted, without the tinting caused by impurities in the glass. Clarity is the ideal lens for underwater photographers and night divers. It is also an ideal lens for teaching, as it allows students and instructors to clearly see each other’s eyes. Clarity lenses are manufactured with the highest purity to ensure maximum visual acuity when diving.
Filtering some of the medium wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum, the Contrast lens has a green tint. Especially when diving in temperate (green) waters, the images seen through the lens show increased contrast. They accentuate lighter and darker areas and increase the perception of visual acuity. The Contrast lens provides full protection against harmful UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays.
Filtering out ultraviolet and HEV (High Energy Visible) radiation, Enhance lenses are designed to protect the eye and enhance the visual experience. It is well known that UV has a harmful effect on the eye, but it has also been shown that HEV light can interfere with and alter lutein proteins in the eye. Therefore, filtering HEV radiation can help to maintain the health of our eyes.
The final piece to choose from is the elastic strap of the mask. Fourth Element designers created it using recycled rubber and nylon. They also made the clips from recycled ABS plastic from the automotive industry. Of course, it is available in different colour variations.
The Fourth Element Scout mask comes in a special case that replaces the traditional plastic box. It protects the lens of the mask thanks to the coating inside. Without a doubt, it is worth noting that it is small enough to easily fit inside the fin for easy transport.
