The Gnojno Reservoir is a large post-gravel pit. It is about 1 km long and 300-600 m wide. Its origins date back to the 1960s and the gravel and sand extracted there were used to build a large part of Bródno and a piece of Ursynów. The material was transported by water, via the Narew and Żerański Canal.

After its exploitation it was a kind of a huge bay, partly separated from the river by a long, narrow, high island. The calm current, considerable depth and hard substrate, combined with clean, well-oxygenated water, created excellent conditions for sooty breeding of zander fry for many years. Everything came to an end in the eighties. The dike in the north-eastern isthmus was dug up, leaving only a narrow connection with the river on the southern side of the pit. In this way a reservoir of still water was created. Very clean and very fishable.

Unfortunately, exploitation at the beginning of the 1990s, combined with poaching, led to a radical impoverishment of the ichthyofauna at a fairly rapid pace. Anglers have also contributed to this to a slightly lesser extent.

According to information on fishing websites, the depth varies from 1.5 metres to about 10 metres in the bay near the islet. The average depth is 3-4 metres.
