This is the first time I have been invited to give a presentation to a school by such a young audience. I like to talk about diving and what life is like on the other side of the water. But I had to do something different for the kids in the second grade of primary school so that they wouldn’t get bored and fall asleep. I wanted to arouse their curiosity and impart some knowledge. Maybe we are growing future divers? In any case, there were a lot of questions, touching the equipment and learning in practice what gravity is, for example. Below is an entry summarising the visit, which will appear in the school newspaper.
Everyone has dreams. Their realisation depends on determination, courage, overcoming various fears, obstacles and adversities encountered.
Diving is the passion of our guest, Mr Wojciech Zgola. It turned out that Mr. Wojtek promotes diving every day, because he is an independent journalist, currently associated with the largest diving portal in Poland – divers24.pl, and since 2008 he runs his own website dive-adventure.eu.
Mr. Wojtek Zgoła visited the Juliusz Słowacki Primary School in Golina on 26 January 2017, and shared his knowledge and experience with second grade students. We all watched with bated breath (students and teachers) the photos and videos that the traveller took on different continents admiring the beauty of the underwater world.
We had the opportunity to get to know the powerful equipment of a diver. It occurred to many of us that, with all the neoprene, tubes, cylinders, masks, etc., we might look like an alien or cosmonaut. Probably the awareness that all this equipment weighs about 30 kg would take away the desire to dive, fortunately in the water it is light and thanks to this diving can be a pleasure. But not only…
Our guest also showed us another side of his passion. It turned out that diving can be a job, for example for underwater archaeologists or professional divers. It can also serve to protect the environment. Each of us sees what is around us. Parents and teachers teach children not to throw litter anywhere. However, it often happens that people throw rubbish into the water when they are at the water’s edge, on a boat, thinking that nobody can see it, and if nobody can see it, then it’s OK.
Thanks to a recording made during one of the actions to clean up Lake Dominickie, we have become aware of the importance of littering in the waters and the difficulty of removing this rubbish. None of us will ever again throw a drink can into the lake.
The meeting with the traveller became an opportunity to arouse the interests of our students. They asked a lot of questions, and discussions about diving continued the next day.
Thank you very much for coming to our school and we wish you more fantastic underwater journeys.
