WZ: Christopher, there is an early medieval Slavic settlement within the Puck Bay. We found out that something like an Archeological Park is to be created there

KW: That’s right. There is an idea to create such a place where an ordinary diver with a basic certification can go underwater and look at fragments of history

WZ: Where did the idea for the park come from in the first place?

KW: You need enthusiasts for this. One of them is Iwona Pomian, who cares about preserving such remains as a cultural asset. You also need support from the authorities. In the case of Puck, we got it right, because the Mayor of Puck, Hanna Pruchniewska, is a very dynamic and open person. She wants to encourage tourists to come to the Bay of Puck. And the third person is me, as a representative of the “diving brotherhood”.

WZ: So the idea of an Archaeological Park was received very well by the authorities?

KW: Yes. We found a renovated building. There is a room in it and a place for diving equipment. In the future, we are thinking about a multimedia exhibition to present the history of the place

WZ: It sounds interesting. I guess everyone likes to discover a sunken history. After all, each wreck, wooden pile, militaria or ceramic fragment has its own story. Tell me Krzysztof, how will the diving itself look like from the technical side?

KW: The settlement in question is about 100 metres from the shore. The divers will be transported by boat directly to the dive site. The whole area will be rigged …

WZ: What is under the water and will it be possible to dive there independently?

KW: Generally in the area of the settlement there are its wooden elements. The depth in this place reaches only a few metres. However, we should remember that in the summer period the visibility decreases considerably and that is why we count on railing diving. Will it be possible to dive alone? I think so, but under indirect supervision.

WZ; Meaning?

KW: Divers who wish to dive in the Archaeological Park will only be able to do so from here and from our boat, but without underwater guides.

AGM: When is the opening?

KW: I am not able to give any specific date. If everything works out positively, we are supposed to enter there in June 2017.

WZ: The D24 editorial team is keeping its fingers crossed and we ask for further information to pass on to our community

KW: Sure thing!
