Treasure hunters scouring the waters off Bryher Island, UK, in search of archaeological artefacts were in for a big surprise. During one of their dives, they came across an unusual find. It was money from a charity event that was stolen this summer.

A group of divers were searching the waters between Tresco and Bryher when they came across a sports bag containing money, several bottles of alcohol and dead crabs. Richard Larn, a marine archaeologist and historian, was one of those who found the bag at a depth of around 8m.

“At the bottom we found some English coins scattered around the bag, while in the bag on top we discovered a box with the charity’s logo on it, full of coins, as well as a bottle of gin, two litre bottles of wine, and two litre bottles of whiskey.” – R.Larn said

“When I saw the bottles, I thought that the crew of some yacht that anchored here wanted to cool them down, but when I saw the box, I immediately associated this fact with a theft that took place during the summer.” – added the finder

The theft has sparked a wave of outrage among the local community, where residents are not even in the habit of locking their doors. Last summer, donations of £1,000 were stolen which were supposed to go towards the fight against breast cancer. Thanks to divers, more than £200 was recovered, of the stolen amount.
