The date of 8 August 2014 should be permanently encoded in the minds and calendars of those who got excited about James Cameron’s expedition to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, which is the deepest place on our planet. The film documenting the expedition – ‘Deep Sea Challenge 3D’ – will hit cinemas on this very day.
26 March 2012. Cameron set off on a solo trip to the deepest place on earth. Before him, only Two daredevils managed to reach the depth of the Mariana Trench. But more than 50 years have passed since then and who but the famous explorer was going to pick up the gauntlet and meet the challenge?
The attempt, preceded by lengthy preparations, was successful. Research and film material was collected. In addition to inspiring him to continue his work as a feature film director, James Cameron collected unique documentary material. Now the whole world will be able to get at least a glimpse into the depths of the Pacific Ocean.
Described as more demanding than flying to the moon, the expedition involved enormous risks. What exactly prompted the experienced explorer and accomplished filmmaker to put his life on the line and throw himself into the sea?
All questions are to be answered by a film production announced for early August. According to the filmmakers, the cameras managed to capture all the drama, danger and excitement surrounding Cameron and his crew on their journey to the deepest part of the Earth.
