In west Wales, divers have come across a World War II-era mine. After the find was reported, it was destroyed in a controlled detonation. The discovery of the mine took place near Milford Haven in Pemborkshire.

Lee Bachelor, who took part in that dive, told the local press that, fortunately, his buddy worked in ammunition production and realised immediately what we had hit.

The explosive charge they located was approximately 1.5m long and 90cm in circumference. After returning from the dive and searching online, both divers concluded that they had hit a parachute mine.

These findings were confirmed by Royal Navy experts who dealt with the case after it was reported. After the detonation site was prepared, the explosive was set off, raising a huge mass of water into the air. The whole operation was planned and carried out in a way that did not affect local water traffic.
