“Cousteau” – new production by National Geographic Documentary Films

Following the success of the documentary “Free Solo: Extreme Climbing” and the announcement of the start of work on the project “Thai Cave Rescue” about a dramatic rescue operation in a flooded cave, National Geographic Documentary Films has announced the start of work on another documentary film that diving enthusiasts will not be able to miss!

“Cousteau” is the working title of the latest production and as you can easily guess, it will treat the life and work of the man who took millions of viewers from all over the world underwater. The feature-length biopic of Jacques Cousteau, the world’s most famous explorer of the seas and oceans, will be directed by two-time Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award-winning director Liz Garbus.

It is impossible to count the number of people in whom the most famous explorer of the seas and oceans instilled passion and curiosity about the underwater world. Whole generations followed subsequent episodes of the series, which took us straight from our TV sets to an amazing and unknown world that we could explore together with a nice Frenchman and his research team.

According to the filmmakers, the new documentary will feature previously unpublished recordings lent by the Cousteau Society Archive and will explore the unknown face of Jaques Cousteau.

Researcher, explorer, ecologist, constructor and populariser of knowledge. With all these terms (and probably many more) we can describe a man who loved the world hidden in the depths with all his being. This extraordinary feeling was visible in everything he did, and additionally he infected others with his love.

[blockquote style=”2″]”Jacques Cousteau was an environmental pioneer. His work to protect the oceans fits perfectly with National Geographic’s core values. We are honoured that the Cousteau Society has chosen to share their extensive archives of private footage with us. Together with Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan and Evan Hays, we hope to create a documentary that pays tribute to Cousteau’s legacy, his work and his enormous contributions to oceanography,” said Carolyn Bernstein, vice president of feature film development and production for National Geographic[/blockquote].
