Choose Ukiel Lake

There is a good chance that the first Polish project of a non-commercial diving spot may win. 3 years ago, Paweł Laskowski, known not only from Diving Poland, came up with the idea to build a diving park at Ukiel Lake.

The area is well-known and popular with the local diving community. The visibility in the water in the months from late autumn to spring is up to 10 metres in winter, and in summer it is often at the level of 5-6 metres.

There are as many as 11 lakes (some say as many as 13) in the administrative area of Olsztyn. Inhabitants registered in Olsztyn who are at least 15 years old can (and should) decide what to spend part of the budget of the capital of Warmia and Mazury on.

In connection with such a possibility, the civic movement “Olsztyn Dives” was established. It brings together ordinary individual divers, owners of diving centres, instructors, formal and informal groups. In short, diving and nature lovers. It is they who have submitted a project to (re)construct a municipal diving site.

This is very good news. At such moments the environment unites to achieve a common goal, which is the common good. If we succeed, and we hope so, each of us divers will be able to come to the Ukiel Lake and dive safely. It is worth mentioning that diving has officially existed in Olsztyn since 1957 and there are hundreds of trained divers.

If you are a resident of Olsztyn, vote for Project 167. It concerns not only divers! From September 25th to October 8th you can vote without leaving your home or office. The whole procedure takes 2 minutes, and you vote electronically.

Go to here and cast your vote for Poland’s first non-commercial diving site.

By the way, this is a great example for other urban communities that have lakes within their administrative boundaries in which to dive.
