The cannons come from no mean ship! To be more precise, they are cannons recovered from the wreck called Applet, which once belonged to the Swedish king’s fleet. What is more, it was a twin to the famous Vasa, which is now one of the most beautiful museums in the world.

The Applet (apple) sank near Dalaro, during a severe storm, on 5 June 1676. The wreck rested 15m under water and was sensationally preserved. If sources are to be believed, definitely better than the now famous Vasa. Unfortunately, this situation changed when in 1921. It was decided to blow up the wreck, in order to recover the black oak from which it was created.

A part of this raw material still forms part of the gate of the town hall, built between 1911 and 1923. 3m long, weigh 1800kg each and are made of cast iron. The starting price is 5000 Swedish crowns.

You can find the auctions here.
