The need to take another light underwater is related to safety when diving in dark waters. In technical diving, the light is an essential element of the diver’s equipment, therefore it cannot be allowed to be missing. A duplicate torch allows us to cope when the primary light fails. A backup is usually much smaller than our primary light. However, this does not mean that it can be inferior in quality. Its working time should not be shorter than the first light. When taking the back-up underwater we should make sure that it is always fully charged. When lending our backup torch to other divers, we should make sure to change the batteries regularly so that in an emergency we can safely complete the dive. When performing cave dives, it is recommended to take two backup torches underwater.
In recreational diving, backapas can sometimes replace a primary light.
